Antibiotic resistance profile of clinical gram negative bacteria

A total of 100 gram negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Enterobactor spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were collected from Dr. Essa laboratory and Dr. Ziauddin hospital in 2007, in Karachi, Pakistan. They were screened for their resistance against six antibiotics including amikacin, cefatoxime, cefoperazone/sulbactam, fosfomycin, piperacillin/tazobactam, and streptomycin at the level of 10μg/ml and 30μg/ml by using replica plate technique. Among them 94% bacteria showed resistance to one or more antibiotics at the level of 10μg/ml whereas 75% bacteria were found resistant to one or more antibiotics at he level of 30μg/ml. Of the total bacteria, 11% and 4% carried resistance to all the six antibiotics at the level of 10μg/ml and 30μg/ml respectively.
